Quality Assurance

Quality assurance in the manufacture of our shoes

We believe that the quality and reliability of our products are vital to our continued growth and therefore we accord high priority to quality control.

We have implemented stringent quality control procedures comprising a comprehensive quality assurance programme and monitoring procedures at each stage of our production processes.

We had received the ISO 9001:2000 certification from the International Accreditation Forum Multilateral Recognition Arrangement for Quality Management System in respect of our production process. In addition, our quality control department staff has been trained in the area of quality control in accordance with our ISO 9001:2000 procedures and the relevant national and industrial standards. We have established the following quality control procedures at various stages of our production process to ensure the quality of our products:-

(i) Raw material quality control

The raw materials used in our production process have to meet our quality requirements and are subject to our strict internal quality control and testing. We select the suppliers of our raw materials based on our assessment of their business operations, quality and price of raw materials. In particular, we ensure that the suppliers have the proper quality control certifications to support the quality control measures which they have in place in respect of the raw materials they supply to us.

Samples of incoming raw materials are selected on a random basis and subject to visual inspection and certain tests, such as the material strength test, colour retention test and the temperature and endurance test, to ensure that the quality of the raw materials meet our specifications and quality standards.

(ii) Production process quality control

Visual inspection of the various parts of the shoes during production are carried out at intermediate stages of the production process. These visual inspections are performed at quality control stations located at various intervals along the production process, staffed by members of our quality control team.

These intermediate quality control checks provide control points where defects in the quality of our shoes can be discovered during the production process. Steps can then be taken to rectify such defects at the appropriate points of the production process.

(iii) Finished products quality control

Finished products are visually inspected prior to packing by members of our quality control staff. Finished products which have visual defects and do not meet specifications are not packed into the boxes and are set aside with defects clearly marked on the rejected finished products. In addition, random samples from a production run are also selected and subject to similar tests conducted during the product development stage. These tests include the following:-

  1. Material strength test - whereby a machine stretches the footwear until its breaking or bursting point. The maximum amount of stretching that the footwear can withstand before its breaking or bursting point is recorded electronically;
  2. Temperature and endurance testing - whereby in conjunction with the shoe bending test as described below, the footwear is placed in a machine and exposed to extreme temperatures to test its resistance and endurance to bending and flexing under adverse conditions;
  3. Colour retention testing - whereby a machine is used to test the resistance of the footwear to discolouration. The footwear is subject to ultra violet radiation and electronic readings are recorded; and
  4. Shoe bending testing - whereby the footwear is subject to repeated bending and flexing to simulate walking and running movements.

Quality assurance for products manufactured by our contract manufacturers

We have positioned several members of our quality control team at our contract manufacturers to ensure that the quality of every batch of apparel manufactured by them is in accordance with our specifications. In the event that a defective product is found, the production managers of our contract manufacturers and our Company will address such problems and where necessary, reject the batch of products from which the defective product originated and commission the production of new products to replace the defective products.
